n 2011 gaan we met de whisky club op whiskyreis gaan naar Schotland. Het betreft een 6-daagse reis met een programma dat speciaal voor ons is georganiseerd door McleanScotland.com, een lokale touroperator oa gespecialiseerd in whisky reizen.
Er is in na nauw overleg een zeer compact en intensief programma vastgesteld, waarbij we vooral stops aandoen die je als gewone toerist minder makkelijk geregeld krijgt, zoals bezoeken aan distillery's die geen bezoekerscentrum hebben, of met een speciale rondleiding en/of extended tasting er achteraan.

DE REIS
De reis is zo opgezet dat we 's ochtends heen vliegen en 's avonds terug, zodat we op de reisdagen ook nog tijd hebben voor minimaal één distillery bezoek. We vertrekken ochtends vroeg per KLM vlucht van Shiphol naar Edinburgh.  Daar worden we opgehaald door een 8-pers. busje met chauffeur/gids. Er wordt een rondreis gemaakt waarbij we de midlands, eastern Highlands, de Speyside en de Northern Highlands aandoen. De uitvalsbasis in de Speyside is het beroemde Craigellachie Hotel hotel in Craigellachie zijn. op een paar honderd meter van de al even beroemde Highlander Inn. Op de 1e overnachten we net boven Dundee en de laatste dag in Inverness.

De reis is opgezet aan de hand van de verschillende elementen van whisky maken: van gerst verbouwen, mouten, stoken tot bottlen. Verder wordt een koperslager bezocht die de ketels maakrt voor de distilleries en een kuiperij die vaten maakt, zodat we in detail meer te weten kunnen komen over al deze odnerdelen van whisky maken. Er wordt ook een bezoek gebracht aan (een van) de laatste direct gestookte ketels van Schotland.

Ook het avondprogramma is niet vergeten: naast de bijna verplichte bezoeken aan de wereldberoemde bar van het eigen hotel,  kan er 's avonds aan de overkant in de Highlander Inn naast whisky ook nog wat mooie cask ales en ander gerstenat geproefd worden. Al met al een fantastische reis die veel te bieden heeft aan elke whisky en Schotland liefhebber, ook als je er al eens geweest bent!

ITINERARY FOR THE DUTCH WHISKY SOCIETY 2011-  SIX DAY TOUR

7 MAY SAT
KLM Flight KL1279 - arrival 10:20 Edinburgh DEPART AIRPORT BY 11.15. The first visit will be to take a breather and have some lunch, followed by a 2pm visit to Daftmill.  After the visit; Driving through the Kingdom of Fife to Dundee and then the short distance to Broughty Ferry. Staying overnight at Taychreggan Hotel & Restaurant. We will be happy to share a dram with you either here or the local pub. Please note dinner is your own choice and cost.

8 MAY SUN
After breakfast we depart at 08.45 for the drive to Fettercairn - our first distillery tour of the day, booked in with David Doig at 10am.  At 11.30 drive to Glencadam for a specially arranged tour there. Departing at 1pm for Keith approx 2 hours and Strathisla distillery for a tour at 3.30. From here it is only 15 minutes to Huntly, Duncan Taylor where we visit the cask warehouse and bottling plant, followed by a dram. Overnight at the Craigellachie hotel. 9 MAY
Today we shall make an excellent first stop to the Speyside Cooperage, 9am. After this we head to Glendronach distillery for a tour approx 12 noon. Followed by a drive to Longmorn for a private tour by Stuart (distillery manager) of Ben Riach. Overnight at the Craigellachie hotel. Please note dinner is your own choice and cost.

10 MAY
A special day with a special tour; all day at Glenfiddich (connoisseur tour including Stillhouse No. 2 where all the stills are still direct fired, and the Solera Warehouse) and Balvenie (extended tour 2,5 hrs) in Dufftown. Returning to the hotel for the evening, e.g. visit the Highlander Inn whisky bar. Overnight at the Craigellachie hotel

11 MAY
From Craigellachie to Balblair, a long drive across the scenic landscape, to arrive at Balblair approx 11am.  From here direct to Clynelish for 2pm tour, the Taste of Brora extended guided tour and tasting in the old Brora Distillery. We then need dash to Glenmorangie for 3.50 arrival, for a tour here.  Stay at Glen Mhor hotel,  Inverness overnight. Please note dinner is your own choice/cost.

12 MAY
Your final day, via Pitlochry, where we visit Blair Athol, the Alltdour tour arranged for 10am. Followed by Tullibardine tour at 1pm. To end the tour, a very special visit; Ben Riach/GlenDronach bottling plant Edinburgh, this will be the final visit before dropping you at the Edinburgh airport.

Return flight home KL1290 departure 18:25
